Meet a Volunteer Summer Series: Garry

Name: Garry

Neighborhood: Ballston

Favorite place in Arlington: My favorite place for food or happy hour is Chevy's.  I spend a lot of time outside and I like to walk around Ballston.  My favorite park is Bluemont Park.

Favorite volunteer event: Family Ice Skate Night With Therapeutic Rec.  I like to ice skate, so it's a lot of fun to skate with kids and adult participants and with other volunteers.  Close 2nd are the Therapeutic Rec adult dances.

Why I volunteer: It's fun!  I like doing things for others, so I feel like volunteering is my passion.  I like that CVN has a great variety of events and people are usually more social than in other organizations I've volunteered with.  Recently I've been getting involved with Therapeutic Recreation.  Their Family Fun Night is awesome and I'm looking forward to helping out at some of their summer camps!

June Meet-Up, Events & More

Message From the Chair
Even though summer is traditionally a time for slowing down, we have several CVN events coming up and need your help! Please take a look at the details below and consider signing up for this weekend's gardening event or the Summer Solstice event later in the month.
I also encourage you to check out The CVN Forum, where we just launched the "Meet a Volunteer Summer Series", a great way to get to know fellow CVN'ers. Special thanks to Julia, a long-time CVN'er who submitted the first blog post. If you have volunteered with CVN and would like to be included, please let me know!

Meet a Volunteer Summer Series: Julia

Name: Julia

Neighborhood: Clarendon/Lyon Village

Favorite place in Arlington: For food, Minh's or Rocklands, for outdoors, the Potomac Heritage Trail

Favorite volunteer event: Every garden work day!

Why I volunteer: Volunteering is how I participate in my community. Since starting with CVN two years ago, I’ve met people from all over Arlington County and helped several organizations serving people in our area. Although I’m a transplant from Pennsylvania, Arlington is becoming my home. What I love about CVN is that if you have an idea that fits within the mission of the organization, you can get it done. I volunteered to take-over coordination of the Tuckahoe Elementary garden work days because I believed that a great garden was valuable to the students. Every garden day we can see the progress CVN has made.
